[S]hingal. Es ist eine Geste, wie sie symbolischer und in der gegenwärtigen Zeit bedeutungsvoller nicht sein könnte: 100 Jahre nach dem Völkermord an Armeniern, Aramäern und Assyrern, den sie selbst „Sayfo“ nennen, liefert die aramäische Hilfsorganisation Aramaic Relief International (ARI) Hilfsgüter in das Shingal-Gebirge. Dort harren seit Monaten tausende êzîdîsche Flüchtlinge aus, die am 3. August vor der Terrormiliz „Islamischer Staat“ (IS) flüchteten und zuletzt wochenlang von den IS-Terroristen belagert und von der Außenwelt abgeschnitten waren. Im Gebirge ist der Winter und damit die Kälte eingekehrt und droht nun dutzenden Menschen das Leben zu kosten.
In diesem Jahr jährt sich zum 100. Mal der Beginn des Völkermordes der Jungtürken an den christlichen Völkern Mesopotamiens. In den Jahren 1915 bis 1918 flüchteten rund 20.000 Christen in das Shingal-Gebirge. Selbst Opfer des Genozids, nahmen Widerstandskämpfer der êzîdîschen Stämme in Shingal die christlichen Flüchtlinge im Gebirge auf und verteidigten sie anschließend gegen ihre Verfolger.

Heute sind die Christen, Aramäer, wieder zurück in den Bergen von Shingal – nicht als Flüchtlinge, sondern als Helfer. Heute sind es die Êzîden, die einen Genozid über sich ergehen lassen mussten und auf Hilfe angewiesen sind.

Prof. Christine Allison, die am Institut für arabische und islamische Studien an der britischen Universität Exeter lehrt, berichtet über den genannten Vorfall: „Die Osmanen sandten ihren Boten zu den Êzîden in das Shingal-Gebirge und forderten mit einem Brief die Herausgabe der aramäischen Flüchtlinge, ansonsten würden die Êzîden selbst die Konsequenzen zu spüren bekommen. Die êzîdîschen Stammesführer zerrissen den Brief und sandten den Boten zur osmanischen Armee zurück – ohne Kleidung“. Für Êzîden unvergessen bleibt der Stammesführer Hemo Shero, der in Richtung der aramäischen Verfolger äußerte: „Erst wenn ich und meine Familienangehörigen im Kugelhagel der Osmanen sterben, können die Osmanen diese Menschen massakrieren!“.

In Zusammenarbeit mit der Hilfsorganisation „Grünhelme“ und lokalen Behörden verteilte die ARI gestern Lebensmittel, Decken sowie Matratzen an die Flüchtlinge im Gebirge. Die christliche Gemeinschaft im Irak ist selbst der Gewalt der Terrormiliz IS ausgesetzt. Aus ihren seit Jahrhunderten bewohnten Hochburgen wie Mosul und Städten in der Ninawa-Ebene sind die Christen fast gänzlich von den Terroristen vertrieben worden. Auch die Weihnachtsfeierlichkeiten wurden aufgrund der Umstände abgesagt.

Der Erzbischof von Mosul, Nikodimos Daoud, wandte sich mit einem emotionalen Appell an die Weltöffentlichkeit, als IS-Terroristen Häuser der Christen markierten und sie schließlich aus der Stadt vertrieben: „Ich lebte in Australien, kehrte aber nach Mosul zurück, weil ich die Stadt vermisste. Aber das Mosul, dass ich so liebe, vertrieb mich, demütigte mich, verletzte meine und die Würde meiner Gemeinschaft.“[1]
