Pogrom von Sivas

Pogrom von Sivas
1993 kamen 35 Menschen zumeist alevitischen Glaubens im Hotel Madımak in Sivas bei einem Brandanschlag eines islamistisch-nationalistischen Mobs ums Leben. Nun wurde einer der Hintermänner durch Erdoğan begnadigt.
Am 02-07-1993 wurden in Sivas (kurdisch Sêwas) 33 Teilnehmer*innen eines alevitischen Festivals sowie zwei Mitarbeiter*innen des Madımak-Hotels durch einen Brandanschlag ermordet. Der Anschlag erfolgte aus einem islamistisch motivierten Mob heraus, der sich im Laufe des Tages vor dem Hotel versammelte und anschließend den Brand im Hotel bejubelte. Bei den Opfern zumeist alevitischen Glaubens handelte es sich um Intellektuelle, Dichter*innen, Autor*innen und Sänger*innen wie Metin Altıok, Hasret Gültekin, Edibe Sulari, Nesimi Çimen, Behçet Aysan und Muhlis Akarsu. Nun wurde einer der Hintermänner, der zunächst zum Tode verurteilt wurde und dessen Strafe nach der Abschaffung der Todesstrafe in eine lebenslange Haft umgewandelt wurde, durch den türkischen Präsidenten Recep Tayyip Erdoğan begnadigt.

Der AKP-Chef begründete die Amnestie für den heute 86-jährigen Täter aus „Rücksicht“ auf dessen gesundheitliche Verfassung. Nicht nur Alevit*innen und die Hinterbliebenen der Opfer des Pogroms, auch Menschenrechtsvereine und zivilgesellschaftliche Organisationen in der Türkei sind empört. Besonders im Hinblick auf die mehr als 1330 kranken Gefangenen, von denen fast 500 in einem äußerst kritischen Zustand sind und trotz attestierter Haftunfähigkeit nicht entlassen werden. Erst vor einer Woche starb der politische Gefangene Hüseyin Polat in einem Gefängnis in Tekirdağ. Der seit 24 Jahren inhaftierte Polat litt unter Magenbluten, wurde jedoch nicht in einem Krankenhaus behandelt. Angehörige von kranken Gefangenen bezeichneten den Gnadenerweis Erdoğans als „menschenverachtend und unmoralisch“ und kündigten Proteste an.

Pogrom von Sivas
Anlässlich eines Kulturfestivals zum Gedenken an den alevitischen Gelehrten und Dichter Pir Sultan Abdal, der Ende des 16. Jahrhunderts im Osmanischen Reich hingerichtet wurde, kamen am 1. Juli 1993 zahlreiche Intellektuelle, Dichter, Schriftsteller, Kunstschaffende und Gelehrte zumeist alevitischen Glaubens in der Stadt Sivas (Sêwas) – dem Geburtsort Pir Sultan Abdals – zusammen.

Am 2. Juli versammelte sich ein islamistischer Mob (die Anzahl der Personen wird auf 20.000 geschätzt) nach dem Freitagsgebet vor dem Madımak-Hotel, umstellten es, riefen in Sprechchören Hassbotschaften und zündeten es schließlich an. 33 Intellektuelle und zwei Hotelangestellte verloren in den Flammen qualvoll ihr Leben. Zwei der Angreifer sind ebenfalls gestorben.[1]
