Armenische und êzîdîsche Widerstandskämpfer unter dem Kommando von Jangir A...
Jerewan. Der Stadtrat der armenischen Hauptstadt hat beschlossen, eine Straße in Jerewan nach dem êzîdîschen Nationalhelden Jangir Agha zu benennen. Einen entsprechenden Beschluss hat der Stadtrat bereits verabschiedet, wie die Stadtverwaltung mitteilte.
Jangir Agha, der mit berühmten armenischen Kommandeuren befreundet war, unterstützte die Armenier im Kampf gegen die genozidalen Verbrechen der Jungtürken militärisch und finanziell. In der bedeutenden Schlacht um Abaran (21. – 29. Mai 1918) kämpften neben 5000 armenischen Kämpfern mehr als 700 êzîdîsche Kämpfer unter dem Kommando von Jangir Agha. Dieser êzîdîsch-armenische Widerstandskampf ist bis heute in Armenien, wo die Êzîden die größte Minderheit bilden, von großer kollektiver Bedeutung.

Jangir Agha kam 1874 im Vilayet Van zur Welt und gehörte dem êzîdîschen Stamm der Mandikan an. Sein Vater, Khatib Agha, übernahm die Führung der êzîdîschen Stämme in Van. Nach dem Tod seines Vaters (zwischen 1904 und 1906) übernahm Jangir Agha die Führung und erlangte unter den Êzîden großes Ansehen, als er mit seinen Kämpfern Angriffe kurdischer Stämmen abwehrte.

Unter Jangir Agha, der die Êzîden zunehmend bewaffnete, entwickelten sich schlagkräftige êzîdîsche Kampfeinheiten. In den folgenden Jahren knüpften Jangir Agha sowie weitere êzîdîsche Stammesführer Kontakte zu russischen Beamten. Wenig später formte er mit seinen Kämpfern und Freiwilligen eine Kampfeinheit.

Im März 1918, als ein Massaker an êzîdîschen Flüchtlingen drohte, nachdem diese ins russische Gebiet geflüchtet und von den Jungtürken eingeholt worden waren, machte sich Jangir Agha zusammen mit seinen Kämpfern auf den Weg zur Verteidigung. Seine Kämpfer sollten die Türken solange in Schach halten, bis die Flüchtlinge in Sicherheit waren. Zahlreiche junge êzîdîsche Männer schlossen sich daraufhin Jangir Agha an und konnten die türkischen Angreifer schließlich zurückschlagen.

Unter dem Regime Stalins wurde Jangir Agha 1937 deportiert und verstarb 1943 vermutlich in der russischen Stadt Saratow. Seine Leiche gilt bis heute als verschollen. Erst im Jahr 1959 wurde Jangir Agha posthum rehabilitiert. Am 29. Juli 2004 wurde Jangir Agha in Armenien zum „Freund der Nation“ ernannt. Für die Êzîden, aber auch für Armenier, gilt er als National- und Volksheld.[1]
