مؤلف هذا الكتاب هو المستشرق ألفرنسي توماس بوا، المولود فی عام 1900 م. في دنكرك في فرنسا.
وقد انتظم في رهبنة الدومنيكان عام 1919م‏. أرسل إلى الشرق الأوسط لدراسة الأمة الكردية, التي كرس لها معظم حياته, فتعلم اللغة العربية واللغة الكردية, وعاش بين الأكراد في جميع مناطقهم في العراق w إيران وسوريا ودرس عاداتهم وتقاليدهم وآدابهم.[1]
