Jamila Jalil (born 19-02-1940 in Yerevan, Armenia) is a Kurdish writer and musician and is the daughter of Jasim Jalil. In addition to her high school education (1948-1958), she attended Alexander Spendiarian’s private school of music. In this school, she learned melodies and notes and learned how to play the piano. In 1959 she studied music for eight years and in 1960 she became a student of the Romanos Melikiani School of Music. In 1964, Jamila Jalil left school, moved to Telin (Armenia, which had 12 Kurdish villages), and taught for a year at the music school in the city center. From 1964 to 1967, Jamila Jalil taught music at the Maxim Gorky Ten-Year School. She continued her musical studies and in 1964 became a student at the Komitas Conservatory Yerevan and studied for five years at the Faculty of Music Theory until 1969. In 1967, she became the editor-in-chief of the Kurdish music department of Radio Yerevan in Kurdish. Jamila Jalil worked as a musician in Kurdish Radio for thirty-five years from 1967 to 2002. Jamila Jalil was a member of the Union of Soviet Musicians and the Union of Soviet and Armenian Journalists.[1]
