23rd Ordinary Congress of the KNK
23rd Ordinary Congress of the KNK
During the 23rd Ordinary Congress of the #KNK# , comprehensive discussions were held on Kurdish national interests, diplomatic strategies, and efforts toward national unity, culminating in the election of co-chairs and members of the Executive Council.
On the second day of the 23rd General Assembly of the KNK (Kurdistan National Congress), members of the Executive Council were elected. Following discussions and a unanimous vote by the delegates, the number of members of the Executive Council was changed from 19 to 23. The Congress continued with the newly elected members of the Executive Council introducing themselves and presenting their proposals.
The re-elected co-chairs of the KNK, Zeynep Murad and Ahmet Karamus, delivered their acceptance speeches. Zeynep Murad said in her speech: “As we assume our duties in this new period, we are fully aware of the weight and historical significance of this responsibility. We face a challenging process ahead in ensuring that the gains made by the Kurdish people in this century are made permanent, in conducting national efforts with greater discipline, and in strengthening the diplomatic ground. As the new administration, we are fully aware of this.”
Ahmet Karamus stated the following: You believed in us and entrusted us with this historic responsibility. Thank you. Our congress and the people of Kurdistan have given us the task of conducting diplomacy in the four parts of Kurdistan and representing the diaspora. This is both a great honor and a heavy responsibility for us. The period we are going through is an extremely sensitive process for our people living in the four parts of Kurdistan and in the diaspora. Over the next two years, we will work to strengthen national unity efforts and represent the Kurdish people as a single voice in diplomacy and international relations.
We owe all our achievements to date to the martyrs who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom. We will strive even harder to be worthy of them and our people. At the same time, we are aware of our responsibility towards all parties and factions in Kurdistan, as well as the Assyrian, Syriac, and other communities living in Kurdistan.”
KNK Executive Council Member Zübeyir Aydar also delivered a speech. He stated that new developments in Bakur (Northern Kurdistan) are being closely monitored in line with the emerging process, and expressed hope that the denial of the rights of the Kurdish people in Turkey could come to an end if the process progresses. Aydar noted that the scope of KNK activities and the direction of the process may change depending on developments, and that a more inclusive scope of activities could emerge.
Aydar called for participation in the conference to be organized by the KNK and the rally to be held in Germany on the 100th anniversary of the execution of Sheikh Said and his companions.
The congress concluded with discussions and proposals by political party representatives, independent figures, and delegates from four parts of Kurdistan, as well as discussions on the protection of Kurdistan's gains.
