Kawa Garmiani

Kawa Garmiani
Kawa Ahmad Mohammed, also known as Kawa Garmyani, was born in 1979 in Rasht, Iran. After spending a lifetime in exile, he came to South Kurdistan and settled in Kalar. Kawa Garmyani started school in 1984 at the age of five and completed his primary education in the Nizal and Marwari schools. He stayed in school until the second grade of secondary school and later dropped out of school due to the difficulties of life and turned to work in order to survive for himself and his family, especially after his father died. Thus, he bore the burden of his family and for this purpose he turns to many difficult jobs and lives in poverty.
When the economic and political situation in Kurdistan deteriorated in the 1990s, this led many citizens, especially young people, to move abroad for a better life. Thus, Kawa Garmiani has tried the way of coming and going abroad several times in order to escape the life of death in Kurdistan. But every time he was deported and he could not achieve his dream and every time he found himself in his difficult life of poverty.
In addition to Kurdish, Kawa Garmyani was familiar with other languages (Persian and Arabic) and was able to benefit from them. Before entering the world of journalism, Kawa Garmyani started writing poetry. In 2002, he joined the world of journalism.
He began his journalistic career as a photojournalist, trying to show everyone the destruction and shortcomings of the government. Later, he went further into the field of journalism and prepared several reports and journalistic news and worked with many newspapers and websites. In 2007, he became a reporter for Awene and Radio Azadi. From there, he became more involved in journalism and mostly his work was to investigate corruption and shortcomings of society, especially in Garmian. He became a reporter for Awene, Kurdistan Report, Kurdistan Road and Garmiani Amro newspapers.
In order to work harder and dedicate himself to exposing shortcomings and corruption, Kawa Garmyani thought about publishing a private and independent newspaper and publication in Garmian, so in 2011 he published a book entitled (Garmian in the black documents). In 2012, he became the editor-in-chief of Garan magazine.
On #10-09-2012# , he became the editor-in-chief of another magazine called Rayel, which published 14 issues until his assassination. In addition to his journalistic work, Kawa was also an active member of civil society and played a role in many demonstrations and protests. He had been arrested and beaten several times for his journalistic work. Kawa Garmyani was an active member of the Kurdistan Union of Journalists and the World Federation of Journalists.
On #12-12-2012# , Kawa Garmyani married journalist Shirin Amin and lived a simple and poor life. Unfortunately, on the night of #05-12-2013# , journalist Kawa Garmyani was shot and martyred in his house. He was buried in the cemetery of Kalar the next day under the slogan “Freedom, Freedom”.[1]
