Zonguldak’ta İnanış gazetesinde çeyrek asır önceydi. Elime bir fotoğraf makinesi verildi, “Git, haber bul” dendi. Haber nasıl bulunurdu bilmiyordum. Makineyi boynuma taktım yürüdüm kalabalığa karıştım. Sağa sola baka baka yürüyordum. Birden bir adam düştü önüme. Sonra bir tane daha... Bir tane daha... Gökten adam yağıyordu. Heyecanlandım. Ellerim titredi. Makineyi kaldırıp son düşeni havada çekemedim. Yerde yatan adamlara doğrulttum makineyi, bastım deklanşöre. Can havliyle kıvranana, “Geçmiş olsun ne oldu?” diye sordum.
“Tente üstünde yemek yiyorduk, yırtıldı” diyebildi, bayıldı. Ben deklanşöre basıp duruyorum. Bir kadın bağırıyordu. “Allah belanı versin! Fotoğraf çekeceğine yardım etsene. Hastaneye götürsene!” Fotoğraf mı çekmeliyim, yardım mı etmeliyim bilemiyordum ki. Makineyi bırakıp yardım ettim. Haber ararken tepeme haber düşmüştü. İlk günümde manşet oldum.[1]
