She was born in 1968 to a Kermanshahi father and a Persian mother in Mashhad, and now she is the mother to two children. She graduated from the Department of Italian Translation and studied classical music. She was the first woman to study opera. She was trained by the famous teacher Mohsen Karamati to learn the maqam. In her own words: “When I was a child, my father played the instrument day and night and always trained me to prepare me to become a skilled musician in the future. My mother helped me a lot in this regard too,” she said.
Maryam Ibrahimpour met her husband, Arsalan Kamkar through Hoshang Kamkar who was a close friend of her parents. About her father-in-law Hassan Kamkar, she recalled that he would say: “I know a girl who is very well suited for my son Arsalan”, said Hassan Kamkar about Maryan Ibrahimpour.
She didn't speak Kurdish before she got married. A few months before she got married, she got very fond of and interested in Kurdish and always wanted to speak Kurdish! In this regard, her husband Arsalan encouraged her to study Kurdish until she gradually became fluent. Arsalan Kamkari is also a poet who composes two-verse poems. Maryam Ibrahimpour says with great enthusiasm: “My soul is Kurdish”
When she was 26 years old, she was invited to the Swedish Grand Prix in 1994 for the first time with the Kamkaran band.
Maryam Ibrahimpour says she sang Kurdish songs with great enthusiasm. “I felt that my fans were increasing in number and many people were interested in my voice, especially my husband Arsalan. I always encouraged him. But my husband is not jealous because he likes my voice and always tells me to keep going. Since then, she has sung in Kurdish several times at events and festivals, with many different styles and rhythms.
