Samstagsmütter

Samstagsmütter
Seit 2018 wird der Galatasaray-Platz in Istanbul inzwischen von schwerbewaffneten Polizisten mit Panzerwagen belagert, um jeglichen Protest zu unterbinden. Die Samstagsmütter bezeichnen diesen Zustand als „Besetzung“, die beendet werden muss.

Die Initiative der Samstagsmütter hat die türkische Regierung aufgefordert, die Besetzung des Galatasaray-Platzes zu beenden. Seit 161 Wochen werde der Platz im Herzen von Istanbul von schwerbewaffneten Polizisten mit Wasserwerfern, Panzerwagen, Gefangenentransportern und Absperrgittern abgeschottet, um die Stimmen der Samstagsmütter zu unterdrücken, sagte Maside Ocak bei der 861. Mahnwache der Initiative.

Seit dem Widerstand im Istanbuler Gezi-Park 2013 sind Protestaktionen auf dem Platz vor dem Galatasaray-Gymnasium in der Istanbuler Fußgängerzone Istiklal Caddesi verboten. Nur die Samstagsmütter durften hier weiter protestieren. Doch mit der Anschuldigung einer „Nähe zur PKK“ wurde am 25. August 2018 die 700. Mahnwache der Initiative, deren Mitglieder – überwiegend Frauen – an das Schicksal von Angehörigen erinnern, die in der Türkei in den 1980er und 1990er Jahren festgenommen wurden und seither verschwunden sind, verboten und gewaltsam aufgelöst. Seitdem sind alle Protestaktionen auf dem Galatasaray-Platz verboten. Bis zum Ausbruch der Covid-19-Pandemie verlegten die Samstagsmütter ihre wöchentlichen Sit-Ins deshalb in eine Seitenstraße vor das Gebäude des Menschenrechtsvereins IHD. Seit Corona werden die Zusammenkünfte virtuell abgehalten.

„Das Recht auf friedliche Versammlung wird durch die Verfassung und internationale Konventionen garantiert. Die Wahl des Ortes ist ein wesentlicher Bestandteil dieses Rechts“, hob Ocak hervor. Maside Ocak ist die Schwester von Hasan Ocak, der am 21. März 1995 in Istanbul verschwunden ist. Ihre Mutter Emine initiierte daraufhin sechs Tage später den ersten Sitzprotest vor dem Galatasaray-Gymnasium, der zur am längsten andauernden Aktion des zivilen Ungehorsams in der Türkei werden sollte. Im Mai desselben Jahres tauchte der Leichnam des zu Tode gefolterten Lehrers in einem anonymen Grab in Istanbul auf. Die beim ersten Zusammentreffen dreißig Menschen zählende Gruppe wuchs mit jeder folgenden Woche. Später sollten sich Tausende am Galatasaray-Platz versammeln. Die Presse gab der Gruppe, die jeden Samstag auf dem Platz eine Sitzaktion durchführte, den Namen „Samstagsmütter“. Die Gruppe nahm den Namen an und begann sich selbst Samstagsmütter zu nennen.

„Das ist unser angestammter Platz. Es ist der Platz, an dem wir seit Jahrzehnten Aufklärung über das Schicksal unserer Toten und Vermissten fordern“, sagte Maside Ocak. Durch das Demonstrationsverbot und juristische Schikane wolle die Regierung bezwecken, die Samstagsmütter von ihrem Widerstand zu entmutigen. „Seid keine Führung, die ihr eigenes Volk bekämpft und die Stimme der Bevölkerung durch die Besetzung öffentlicher Plätze unterdrückt und sie in Freiluftreviere verwandelt. Zieht euch vom Galatasaray-Platz umgehend zurück“, forderte Ocak.[1]
