Dozens of relatives of victims of the Kurdish civil war and a few hundred of their supporters demonstrated and held a strike in front of the Kurdish Regional Parliament, demanding that the fate of 48 missing persons captured during the war between Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in the mid 1990s be uncovered. They sent a request to the Kurdish parliament for the truth be revealed and for the families of the victims to be told what happened to these people.
Representatives of the Kurdish regional parliament told the demonstrators that they would have to talk to KDP and PUK, and that the parliament cannot do anything about this issue.
It is worth mentioning that hundreds of people were captured during the Kurdish civil war and disappeared forever. Hundreds of people were killed and many disappeared. Numerous people have been jailed due to the internal war, and some people are still sitting in prison even after the peace agreement between the two political parties in 1998.
CHAK supports the demands of the families of the victims and asks the Kurdish Regional Government to uncover the fate of these missing people. Furthermore CHAK demands compensation for all people who went missing in the internal war.
The following names are names of 35 missing persons, which their relatives participated in the demonstration.
