Is an old Roman Historical castle in Amed Province (Diyarbakir), 500 AD.
The ruins of Zarzawan Castle are 13 km away from the city of Çinar in Amed (Diyarbakir) Northern Kurdistan . It is located on the Amed-Mardin road. Excavations began in Zarzawan Castle in 2011 AD. Where it became clear that the date of its construction dates back to the sixth century AD, and the Romanians built it as a military protectorate for them, on the ruins of the Mithrae temple built underground in the fifth century AD. The area of ​​the land on which the Zarzawan castle was built is 60 dunums. The height of the castle walls ranges between 12 and 15 meters, and a length of 1200 meters. Today, the ruins of Zarzawan castle are considered one of the most prominent monuments in Kurdistan, which is visited annually by thousands of tourists every year. An ancient Roman garrison in the Kurdish province of Diyarbakir, southeast Turkey has been included on a tentative list to be considered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Turkish state media reported on Friday. Zerzevan Castle, also known as Samachi Castle, is a historic site in Diyarbakir province. Dating back to the third century, the castle was once a Roman military base.  The list of World Heritage sites was Created by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1972 to identify cultural and natural sites of outstanding universal value. The organization works to encourage states to protect heritage sites through the World Heritage Convention as long as possible .[1] [2]
