Baba Tahir Hamadani(Oryan)
Baba Tahir Hamadani(Oryan)
#Baba Tahir Hamadan#i also known as #Baba Tahir Oryan#, his name is Tahir. They were calling him Baba, because he was one of the wise and good men of #Yarsan# people.
Baba was a name given to Yarsanism wise men, later after appearance of Islam people who were Islamic dervishes were given a similar name. Baba means prefix Baba (roughly meaning 'The Wise' or 'The Respected') has been thought as part of his name in all known sources, his nickname Oryan ( meaning 'The Naked' ) did not appear until about 17th-century.[1] And he was called Hamadani because he was from Hamadan, in his poems he used Tahir which is his real name.

The oldest sources that has mentioned Baba Tahir's life is a Rawandi book. In this book it's written about the meeting between Sultan Toghrul of Seljuk dynasty and Baba Tahir. Here the writer wants to emphasize that dervishes and sufis were people with great role and honor back then. At the meeting it's written that this has occurred : I heard when Sultan Toghrul had entered the city of Hamadan, The descendants of the sufis were three Pirs, Baba Tahir and Baba Jaafer and Pir Hamsha. Near a mountain, that was Called Khdir were waiting near the entrance of Hamadan. When the Sultan saw them, he stopped his men and he himself as well dismounted his horse and came to them with Shaliar Abu-Nasser Kandari and wanted to kiss their hands . Baba Tahir faced the Sultan and told him : oh Turk what do you want to do with the people of God? the Sultan said: whatever you want I will do that. Baba Tahir told him: do what God has told you to do, God says: (ان اللەیامر بالعدل و الاحسان). The Sultan started to cry and said :I will do that. Baba Tahir held his hands and told him: will you accept this gift from me? The Sultan said : yes. Baba Tahir took out the neck of the watering can that he had used for ablution for many years out of his finger and putted it in the Sultan's finger and said : I have put all the treasure of earth inside your hand, at the time i am putting your finger into this ring, be judge. Sultan kept Baba Tahir's gift and took it with himself to whichever battle he went.

The exact date of his birth is unknown. According to a source Baba is Tahir son of Faraidun and was alive at 1019. We have information from a trusted source that he had died the same year. Some think he had lived between 937-1019 , others say 999-1058, some others think he has lived at the same time as Avicenna 1063, others say he has lived at the time of Nasir al-Din al-Tusi.
Biographers put different dates of Baba tahir's life and think he was from the same era as Ain al-Kuzat Hamadani 1130, but it's evident that they have gone quite far even those who put him in the same era with Nasir al-Din al-Tusi. Raza Kuli Khan says : Tahir Oryan Hamadni Oryan is the holy name of Baba Tahir, he was one of the wise men of his time, he had a lots of respect and honor among the people at that time, some people put him to the same era as Seljuk dynasty emperors but this is not true, Baba Tahir had lived 410 years before the Hijrah, and was before Firdawsi and Onsury and others of that era.[2]
