TO OUR PEOPLE AND THE PUBLIC OPINION; 19.07.2013
Documents

The democratic and peaceful settlement process initiated by Abdullah Ocalan, Kurdish People’s Leader, has reached a critical phase. We deem it necessary to inform our people and the public opinion on the issue once again.
The health, safety and freedom of Leader APO, as the leader who has initiated a process leading to the peoples’ free-egalitarian unity, are issues of vital importance. Two weeks ago, we declared that Leader APO’s health has reached a perilous stage and called on the government to take concrete steps considering the importance of the issue and called on our people and friends to be sensitive in this regard.
Hundreds of civil society organizations have for many times called the attention of the public to the health problems of Leader APO and demanded for an independent health delegate to go to Imrali and carry out a full medical examination there. Even some interested institutions have formed health delegates and formally applied to the Ministry of Justice. But the government has not yet made any statement on the issue or given any positive and negative response to the calls.
Our movement, our people and the democratic public opinion are seriously questioning and suspicious of the government’s sincerity about the peace process as it has adopted such an approach towards the health of Leader APO.
At the same time, the AKP government is continuously supporting many murderous and bandit groups like Cebhet ul Nusra in Syria and impairing the peace and stability in the Kurdish regions in an attempt to eliminate the freedom chances the people of Rojava (West Kurdistan) have attained. So, it’s quite clear that the AKP is trying to do away with the gains of our people. The government’s failing to acknowledge the fundamental rights of our people is now open to suspicion and controversy at a time when it shows no tolerance for the advantages of our people in Rojava. We call on AKP to leave its hostile approaches towards the national democratic rights of the Kurds in Rojava and immediately stop its relationships with El-Kaide and bandit groups.
While increasing the meeting opportunities with Leader APO and getting other delegations other than the BDP delegate to conduct meetings with him were the steps necessary for the advance of the settlement process, the AKP government has even been postponing the once-in-15-days visits of the BDP delegate and has not yet submitted the letter we had written to Leader APO. These practices force us to reconsider the process. Despite the fact that the second stage of the process was due to be in effect from the first of June, only one concrete step has not yet been taken by the government. The AKP is quite arbitrarily postponing the usual meetings with Leader APO as it does not fulfill its own responsibilities. It’s quite clear that these attitudes will not be accepted.
In North Kurdistan, increasing the number of village guards, intensifying drone reconnaissances alongside the construction of dams and military posts is rapidly continuing. When we put all these practices together, that is, preventing the visit of a doctors delegate to Imrali and the medical examination of Leader APO, not letting the BDP delegation to hold its once-in-15-days meeting with him, attempts to strangle and eliminate the Rojava revolution, it is quite clear that the AKP government is trying to sabotage the process. Quite contrary to these facts, the prime minister, his spokespersons and the media pretend not to see all these attitudes sabotaging the process and are accusing our movement of putting the process into danger.
We, as the Kurdish freedom movement, warn the AKP government for the last time. We state that if it does not take steps according to the demands of our people and the public opinion, the process will not advance anymore and everybody should know the AKP government is the one which will be held responsible for it.
Again, we call on the AKP government to leave the sabotaging and obstructing approaches and start to fulfill its duties in the second stage of the process. We call on our people and our friends to behave sensitively and strengthen their rebellion in order to secure the safety, health and freedom of Leader APO.
