'Affan Naqishbandi
'Affan Naqishbandi
Sheikh Afan, son of Haji Sheikh Osmani, son of Sheikh Hisamaddin, was born in 1938 in Bakhakun village of Hawraman region.
His father died before he was born, so he was given special affection by his grandfather Sheikh Ali Hassamedin from childhood and was brought up by him until his death.
In the late 1940s, he completed his primary education in Hawraman and then went to Sulaymaniyah for secondary education.
In 1961, he was appointed as a teacher in the village of Susakan, but after being transferred to the village of Golb, he started working as a teacher.
He became interested in organizational work since secondary school and became a member of the General Union of Iraqi Students.
He joined the revolution at the beginning of the September Revolution and participated as an active member in the teachers' organization.
In 1970, he won the trust of the teachers to become a member of the 3rd Congress of the Kurdistan Teachers Union in Nawprdan.
In 1971, he became the head of the agricultural census committees of Sharazoor and Hawraman regions.
In 1972, the teachers of the region again gave him the confidence to represent them in the 4th Congress of the Kurdistan Teachers Union in Erbil. Because of his activities and service to the residents of his region, he played an important role in the struggle of party work, professional and organizational work of teachers in Hawraman region and continued until 1974.
After the fall of the Revolution, he was exiled to Rumisa in southern Iraq for five years. In 1980, he returned to Sulaymaniyah, where he resumed serving his people through teaching and schooling until the great uprising of the spring of 1991.
After the great uprising of the spring of 1991, he played a significant role in the party and organizational work of the Kurdistan Teachers Union and became the representative of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in the organization of the Sulaymaniyah branch of the Kurdistan Teachers Union.
In 1992, he became one of the 100 candidates of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in the first Kurdistan parliamentary elections.
In the same year, 1992, he became a member of the Kurdistan Teachers' Union Congress and later elected a member of the Secretariat Bureau of the Kurdistan Teachers Union.
In 1993, he became a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Teachers' District.
At the beginning of the civil war, he was one of the 56 members of parliament who took refuge in the Kurdistan Parliament building for 101 days against the civil war.
After the establishment of two administrations in Kurdistan, he became the president of the Kurdistan Teachers Union.
From 1995 to 1996, on the recommendation of Massoud Barzani, he took over the affairs of the Ministry of Education and played a significant role in the conduct of bachelor's examinations throughout Kurdistan during the two administrations.
He played a significant role in the unification of the Kurdistan Teachers Union and gathering all Kurdistan teachers under this union and later as president and vice president played a significant role in serving Kurdistan teachers. He also played a significant role in becoming a member of the Kurdistan Teachers Union in the World Teachers Organization and participated in several teachers' congresses inside and outside Kurdistan.[1]
