In a statement on April 6, the Day of Killed Journalists, Dicle Fırat Journalists' Association (DFG) stated that the Turkish state has murdered at least 15 journalists in the last five years.
The Turkish Journalists' Association (TGC) declared April 6, the day of the assassination of journalist Hasan Fehmi Bey, as the Day of Martyred Journalists in 1997 and changed its name to the Day of Killed Journalists in 2005.

In a statement on the occasion, the Dicle Fırat Journalists' Association (DFG) said that journalists who reveal the truth have been targeted ever since, especially in Kurdistan. According to DFG, 15 journalists have been killed in the last five years in Turkey's attacks against the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and the cities in North and East Syria.

“Dozens of journalists, including Apê Musa (Musa Anter), Hrant Dink, Metin Göktepe, Abdi İpekçi, Nagehan Akarsel, Nazım Daştan, Cihan Bilgin, Gulistan Tara, Aziz Köylüoğlu, were murdered by power groups that are disturbed by the truth. Each massacre is an attack against the democratization of this land. Even though the murders of journalists were intended to kill the truth, their legacy and ideas will always live on. We will walk in the footsteps of the murdered journalists, we will not leave their pens unclaimed,” said the statement.

The Mesopotamia Women Journalists Association (MKG) also released a statement marking April 6 and said that 12 women journalists have been murdered around the world in the last 10 years.

Stating that six of these women journalists were murdered in Kurdistan at the hands of the state, MKG said, “Even though those who murder journalists want to prevent the truth from being made public, we as the Kurdish Press will continue to write the truth. We will continue to grow our struggle in the footsteps of Deniz and Nujian. We will not leave the pens and cameras of our murdered colleagues unclaimed.”[1]
