TO OUR PEOPLE AND THE PUBLIC OPINION

The offences and coercion policies the AKP government used to apply in Kurdistan are now being put into practice all over Turkey. In all demonstrations one or two demonstrators are intentionally killed. According to the estimations of the AKP, they would be able to suppress the social opposition this way. In order to oppress the opposition the AKP government has not only increased the number of police forces but also has equipped them with new sophisticated techniques. Turkey has been transformed into a police state.

The police state has committed its last crime in Hatay by killing Ahmet Atakan. Using violence against the student demonstrations in ODTU (The Middle East University of Technique) was protested in Hatay and many other places. The police attacked these protests again. While protests are going on against police attacks, the police is insisting on attacking the protesters. In fact, the police is attacking any demonstration of any scope, just reminding everyone of the bull and the red rag. In the last days the offences of the police against the Alevis, protesting assimilation plans, clearly showed the government’s approach towards any democratic demonstrations. The AKP government is suffering the Gezi Park Syndrome. It is afraid that leaving the demonstrations unsuppressed will result in a new Gezi Park resistance which can result in the overthrow of the government.

The AKP government, which did not take any steps towards democratization and the settlement of the Kurdish question, is in fear of the unity of the democratic circles in Turkey with the Kurds’ struggle for democratic settlement. It is trying to get rid of that fear by getting the police attacking the people. The AKP government is behaving like all those power circles devoid of a democratic mind-set. In order to strengthen its hegemony, the government has preferred upgrading the level of suppression to taking democratization steps and reconciling with the society.

Our Movement halted the withdrawal of the guerrillas due to the hegemonic mindset of the AKP which turns a blind eye on the democratization of Turkey. It will upgrade the democratic struggle to ensure taking democratization steps. Therefore it will support the democratic struggle of democratic circle in Turkey. It will side with freedom and democracy forces against the offences of AKP on the opposition. It will unite the Kurdish people’s freedom and democracy struggle with the Turkish peoples’ democratic struggle. It will continue this struggle until the AKP government takes serious democratization steps and resolve the Kurdish question.

We condemn strongly the police offences in Hatay and renew our position of siding with the people of Turkey and democratic circles. We call on the Kurdish people to upgrade their freedom and democracy struggle shoulder to shoulder with democratic forces in Turkey and fulfill their responsibilities with regard to the democratization of Turkey and settlement of the Kurdish question.

At a time when cemeteries are being attacked, dams are being built with the purpose cultural genocide, the KCK detainees and ill prisoners are not being freed, the freedom of Kurdish People’s Leader has not been ensured, education in the mother tongue and the right of self-rule are still rejected, and the police is still attacking the people, we call on the Kurdish people to promote the level of their serhildans (uprisings) until the democratic demands are met and the offences come to a halt.
